MaryAnn Shinko, 88, of Hatch Hollow Road, Union City, Pa., passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 19, 2025.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 5, 1937, the daughter of the late Patrick M. and Anne F. Tomcho Fifer. She was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Union City. She was a homemaker and worked on their farm with her husband.
MaryAnne was very active in St. Teresa’s Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, former choir director and CCD teacher. She was also active in Amity Township, where she served as a township supervisor, township secretary/treasurer, zoning officer and auditor. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. Her love of her family and her church were most important to MaryAnn.
Besides her parents, MaryAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Shinko, on June 5, 2007; her brother, John Fifer; and her sister, Theresa Kifer.
MaryAnne is survived by her four children: Anita Bush, of Wattsburg, Pa., Mercita Hodapp and her husband, James, of Wattsburg, Craig Shinko and his wife, Louise, of Union City, and Paulette Earll and her husband, Scott, of Union City; one brother, Patrick Fifer and his wife, Mary, of Cranberry Township; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, 9 Third Ave., Union City, on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025 at noon with Fr. Thomas Whitman and Fr. F. Thomas Suppa officiating.
Because the cemetery is closed for the winter, burial will take place in the spring.
The C. S. Warthman Funeral Home, 69 N. Main St., Union City is in charge of arrangements.
